Laolu Senbanjo

Renowned porcelain art brand, Lladros, unveils its latest collection, “The Dreamer by Láolú,” marking a significant milestone as the brand’s first collaboration with a distinguished African artist, Láolú Senbanjo.

Based in New York and of Nigerian descent, Senbanjo joins forces with Lladró to encapsulate the spiritual essence of Yoruba heritage through the medium of porcelain art.

This extraordinary collection comprises two limited edition sculptures that ingeniously blend influences from the Yoruba culture, celebrated for its profound religious beliefs, and other rich Nigerian traditions, all presented with a contemporary twist.

Senbanjo’s artistic vision breathes life into Lladró’s porcelain, which becomes a captivating canvas for his creative expression.

“The Dreamer by Láolú” masterfully incorporates the artist’s signature geometric patterns in black and gold onto white porcelain.

This transformation from Senbanjo’s intricate drawings to porcelain is a testament to Lladró’s unparalleled craftsmanship.

Each stroke is meticulously hand-engraved and hand-painted in black and gold luster, resulting in an exquisite fusion of Senbanjo’s unique graphic language with the sculptural form, culminating in a distinctive and impassioned work of art.

Senbanjo’s creative process, referred to as “the Sacred Art of the Ori,” is a spiritually guided endeavor that aims not only to create art but also to elevate consciousness.

The use of black color and various intricate shapes infuse his designs with compelling narratives deeply rooted in his Yoruba heritage.

Intriguingly, Láolú Senbanjo draws inspiration from Yoruba body painting rituals, employing traditional African patterns using charcoal, ink, and paint across a diverse range of canvases, from buildings and automobiles to paper, wood, and even the human skin of his models.

Now, his artistry extends to the realm of porcelain, as he shares, “When I met Lladró, I was impressed by the different cultures I saw represented in their universe.

It’s the first time I’ve worked with porcelain. It has a shine and luster when exposed to light that doesn’t appear in any other type of ceramic, and it’s beautiful; something so striking and genuine.
