American Olympic athlete, Ibtihaj Muhammad, is on a sports diplomacy trip to Rwanda.
Muhammad, who is known as the first Muslim American woman to wear a hijab while competing for the US in the Olympics, posted a selfie on her Instagram page which she took with Rwandan Olympians.
She captioned the post saying, “What better way to kick off my sports diplomacy trip to Rwanda other than with an Olympic (and NFL) selfie?! Honored to stand with these Rwandan Olympians, who despite the tragedies and obstacles they’ve faced, have persevered and are a source of pride and inspiration for all Rwandan youth. Thank you @kidsplayintl and Sports United for the opportunity. Such a moving experience and we’re only one day in! Stay tuned for more #KPIintl #TeamUSA #OlympicDay.”
Muhammad and her siblings launched their own clothing line called Louella in 2014, with the aim to bring modest fashionable clothing to the US market.
